What is the DAP Festival?
The Danza in Arte a Pietrasanta (DAP) Festival is one of the most prestigious international dance events in the world. Each year our sister city Pietrasanta hosts dancers from all over the world for two weeks of masterclasses and performances. Every non-covid year since 2017 dance students from Troy University have attended this event. This year it is taking place from June 25th until July 8th.
Who are you fundraising for? And how much is the goal?
Troy Students have been able to attend for years now, but that opportunity hasn't been open to Troy alumni. Being outside of school, these dancers have less support to be able to attend an international event of this caliber, especially this early in their career. So in conjunction with DAP the goal is to raise the funds to send 15 alumni dancers to the two week festival. While each dancer is also fundraising on their own, we know that by combining our efforts, we are far more likely to reach the goal. Room, board, and round trip flight will total around 3,600 per dancer. So between all our combined efforts we need to raise as close to 54,000 dollars as we can.
Why is MGM Sister Cities helping?
Our reasons are threefold:
1. As an extension of the Hilltop Howlers, this dovetails perfectly with our mission of supporting art and culture.
2. Because this is focused on dancers who are still early in their careers, and working hard to establish themselves, we want to help provide the kind of aid we wish everyone could get early in their career.
3. We hope this will help bring attention to our mission to grow and expand our sister city connections. We want to help grow our Pietrasanta connection especially, and when someone asks for help, you help them.
